Individuals and Families

Every year thousands of North Carolinians do not achieve their goals or are not able to lead healthy, fulfilling lives due to injuries and violence. When we talk about injuries, we are talking about many different causes--anything from car crashes to hurting yourself while playing sports. Many things are included when we talk about violence, such as sexual assault, suicide, homicide and emotional abuse such as threats, bullying or neglect.

Steps can be taken by communities and individuals to stop injuries and violence before they start. Often there is no one way to prevent an injury or violence, so it is necessary to work in partnerships to make changes in the world that will help us stay safe from hurt and harm.

The drop down menu under Individuals and Families lists various injury and violence topics. Click on a subject to find out more information about the issue as well as steps you can take to prevent injuries and violence and help make sure you and those around you can live to their full potential.

If you are looking for data or research about injury and violence, please visit our Data and Surveillance page.
