Get Alarmed, North Carolina! was an initiative to reduce residential fire injury and death in North Carolina that operated from 1999-2012. The Get Alarmed program documented over 400 lives saved from home fires. Current data shows that fire, while still a serious issue, is no longer in the top five leading causes of death from injury in North Carolina. Successful prevention initiatives are the reason fire is claiming fewer lives than it once did.
Limited resources mean programs must focus attention on the issues of greatest concern to public health. Therefore, the Get Alarmed program ended operations in 2012. Funding to support the prevention of fires and injuries from fire is available from other organizations.
